Black Sand Beach located on the Island of Maui within Waianapanapa State Park on the Eastern side of the island by Hana. The pitch black granules were created long ago by the rough surf pounding on a fresh, bubbling lava flow, courtesy of Haleakela. It took a millennia or more to be ground down into a beach. Today it is popular for swimming and sunbathing.
